DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

Dothan police say one person is in custody and an investigation is ongoing after a firearm assault happened in the 400 block of Mona Drive.

Michael Bailey, 25, is charged with first degree burglary and attempted murder following his arrest Thursday morning.

According to the news release, around 7:20 a.m., a female victim was shot multiple times by a male suspect, later determined to be her boyfriend. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition

Officers quickly gathered information and found that Bailey lived in Ozark. After being spotted in his vehicle by a Midland City police officer, he was stopped on Highway 27 in Dale County.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident may have been domestic related. Investigators later learned that Bailey and the victim were in a volatile relationship that the victim was trying to separate herself from him. Bailey located the victim at a friend's home and forcefully entered that apartment, before pulling her outside where she was shot.

Bailey has since been transported to a local facility with a $1 million bond.

No other information is being released at this time.
