The Lempert Report Innovation Series Highlights Precautions and Innovations in Cookout Gadgets to Avoid Food Illness

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooking outdoors is a fun and tasty way to eat a meal, however it can be deadly due to food borne illness. Taking precautions and using food safety gadgets like the iGrill2 can help, according to this week's segment of The Lempert Report Innovation Series, a weekly video series featuring innovation in the food world.

Sponsored by Tetra Pak, The Lempert Report Innovation Series videos are found online at The Lempert Report's Youtube Channel and on Tetra Pak's consumer Web site BeCartonSmart.com.

"It's especially important to take extra precautions when preparing perishable foods such as meat and poultry," says Phil Lempert, CEO and editor of The Lempert Report.  "Warm weather provides a perfect environment for bacteria in food to multiply rapidly and cause foodborne illness."

Lempert suggests using iGrill2, a single probe, wireless Bluetooth Smart thermometer that tells the cook when their food reaches the desired temperature from their mobile device. The thermometer connects to your phone through the iGrill app and gives the real time meat temperature.

In addition, Lempert offers these cookout tips:

  • Preheat the coals on your grill for 20 minutes;
  • Don't use the raw food marinade on cooked foods;
  • Clean your utensils after it touches the cooking food; and
  • Don't put cooked food on the same plate that held the raw food.

The Lempert Report Innovation Series is available online for consumers, food industry insiders and also as a ready-to-air segment for newsrooms. Throughout the video, "Tetra Pak Tips" provide behind-the-scenes insight about the products, packaging and trends.
