Good morning and Happy 4th of July! This is Melissa Johnson, filling in for Tonya and Judd this morning on Today in Alabama. Today, we're getting you ready to celebrate the holiday, with details on patriotic events happening in our area.
The holiday weekend began on a tragic note; however, after an MPD Officer died from an apparent drowning in Orange Beach. Lt. Rian Rider was over the Domestic Violence Unit at MPD. We'll have details on what happened and read a statement from his family.
We're also following the Hurricane Arthur this morning through the power of the Raycom News Network. We'll have reports from the east coast states, as we watch how the first named storm of the season is impacting residents in its path.
