PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

The Family of 9-year old Alex, the young Prattville boy struck by a vehicle Thursday night, say they signed his as an organ donor and his heart is being donated to save another person. They also say there are five other recipients that will receive his organs, so he will be saving six peoples' lives.

Dozens gathered at Pratt park on Sunday to celebrate Alex's life. Friends that knew him well say he was a sweet, caring, funny boy and full of adventure.

According to Police Chief Mark Thompson, the boy was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

Chief Thompson said the incident was reported to police around 8:37 p.m. on Thursday. The 9-year-old boy was riding his bike on Wetumpka Street near Prattville Baptist Hospital when he was struck. We're told he and some friends were heading home when the accident happened.

No other details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
