Glenn gets 1st MLB hit; cut by Jays

Posted: Updated:
It was a bittersweet 24 hours for Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Brad Glenn.

Saturday night the Arizona Wildcats 2009 draftee got his first big league hit; a 5th inning infield single off of Oakland’s Scott Kazmir. The hit ended an 0-for-13 slump for Glenn to start his Major League career.

Unfortunately Glenn may have to wait a while to get a second big league hit. Prior to Sunday’s Jays game in Oakland he was designated for assignment by Toronto.

The Jays removed him from their 40-man roster after claiming outfielder Nolan Reimold off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.

If Glenn in turn is not claimed by another team he’ll likely be outrighted back to the Jays Triple-A club in Buffalo where he was hitting .377 prior to his promotion.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma native hit 43 home runs during his four seasons with the Wildcats, 2nd most in program history.

He was drafted in the 23rd round in 2009 by the Jays selected with the 700th overall pick making him the lowest selected UA player to make the big leagues since Kevin Ward (733rd) in 1982.
