CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A woman was killed and a man critically injured when their jet ski crashed into a dock on Smith Lake just after midnight on Sunday.

Alabama Marine police say the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the part of Smith Lake known as the Sulphur Springs Slough. It backs up to the Crane Hill community in Cullman County.

A 24-year-old female died at the scene. The Cullman County coroner later identified her as Albina Sharifullina.

A 40-year old male was also injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries. Marine police say he is expected to survive his injuries.

Police are also cautioning everyone who goes out on the water pay attention to their surroundings, especially at night.

"You want to always have make sure you know where you are going. At night it's a different animal, and make sure you are familiar with your water ways," John Williams with Alabama Marine Police said.

Police are not saying at this time who was driving the jet ski. They say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
