TRINITY, AL (WAFF) - About 200 new jobs will soon be a reality in Lawrence County.

Jack Daniel's opened its brand new cooperage Monday morning in Trinity, at an event attended by Governor Robert Bentley.

The facility will make hundreds of white oak barrels every day. The barrels will be transported to the Jack Daniel's distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Once there, the barrels will be scorched and filled with the world-famous Tennessee whiskey, then aged until ready to be bottled and sold.

“They (the company) have been excellent to work with,” said Tony Stockton, Executive Director of the Lawrence County Industrial Board. “We’ve worked together extremely well, and we believe that this is just the beginning of a new day in Lawrence County.”

“I appreciate Jack Daniel's officials for expanding to Trinity and creating 200 jobs,” Gov. Bentley said. “We are proud to know that hard-working Alabamians will produce the company’s classic solid white oak barrels.”

After several months of bad economic news in Lawrence County, including the closure of the International Paper plant in Courtland, county leaders are thrilled to celebrate the new opening.

“When an industry like [IP] closes and you lose 1,100 jobs, you’re not going to overcome that in a short period of time,” said Stockton. “But we believe with the opening of Jack Daniel's and another industry across the railroad that is nearing completion, we are on the road back.”

The cooperage is located at the Mallard Fox West Industrial Complex.
