TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins is speaking out about the holiday weekend's violence, and says he's angry one of the city's crime-fighting tools didn't work.

The mayor is demanding answers after a sky cop camera near the scene of a shooting Sunday on Fernwood Avenue didn't work.

Toledo Police say two suspects in an SUV fired shots on Fernwood around noon on Sunday, hitting one man in the groin. Another vehicle chased the SUV, and the suspects eventually left the vehicle. Later, one of the suspects showed up at a hospital with his own gunshot wound. Police are still searching for the other suspect.

Mayor Collins says a camera at Fernwood and Lawrence didn't record the SUV getting away.

"We've invested over $2 million, and I was told with confidence that we would be able to get at the recovery of the information necessary," Collins said. "And we have no record of the event. I mean, that's unacceptable."

The mayor has directed Toledo Police Chief Bill Moton to investigate the camera failure further.

Collins addressed block watch groups in the Beverly neighborhood Monday night. The groups wanted to hear about fighting blight and cracking down on violent crime.

"We're all in the same boat together, and none of us want to see that kind of activity," said Paul Raczkowski, block watch chairman. "None of us want to see anyone killed or hurt or injured."

Mayor Collins is troubled by Sunday's double shooting, and the Saturday night fatal shooting of 28-year-old Robert Harris on Vance Street.

"We have too many guns on the street," Collins said. "We have to start becoming very aggressive with those who are carrying guns."

He said both Saturday and Sunday's shootings are related. Police have not identified suspects.
