Baptist Health and American Family Care to join forces

Posted: Updated:

Baptist Health and American Family Care (AFC) announced Tuesday that they are partnering to provide primary and urgent care services throughout Central Alabama.

AFC is the largest urgent care provider in Alabama and one of the largest in the United States with over 126 clinics in operation. It has three clinics in Montgomery and Prattville.

PriMed is owned by Baptist Health and has five locations throughout Montgomery, Wetumpka, and Prattville.

All 8 locations will be co-branded as AFC PriMed.

The two organizations entered the partnership to improve patient outcomes through a closer coordination of care among the partners and to provide primary/urgent care clinics in other areas of Central Alabama that are currently undeserved or have no access to primary/urgent care services.

"Baptist Health is committed to quality patient care and we are very excited to partner with American Family Care, a company that shares our goals and plans for growth of an exceptional primary care network for our community," said Russell Tyner, President and CEO of Baptist Health.

"We are excited to combine our medical experience and commitment to excellence with Baptist Health's talented health care professionals as we work together to create a new benchmark for top quality medical care," says D. Bruce Irwin, M.D., owner and founder of American Family Care.

The partnership will serve approximately 470,000 people living in a seven county region and surrounding communities. It will also open up 75 to 100 new jobs in the Montgomery area including physician, clinical and clerical positions.

The clinics will be open daily with extended hours and will be available without appointments.
