Editorial: "Viewer Feedback: "Not In Our Town"

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Our editorial earlier last week focusing on the KKK's solicitation of new members in Tallassee lead to the following feedback on wsfa.com and our WSFA 12 News station Facebook page…here is just a sampling:

Lamar responded with, "I am not defending the KKK but black people say racist things everyday on the air, yet no one writes editorials condemning them. We will never be able to have a conversation on race until we admit that everyone is a racist to some extent. If you say only whites are racist then you have made a racist comment." WSFA.COM

Linda provided the following, "I for one DO NOT agree with the KKK … I dislike what they stand for and think that they are wrong in what they do; there are other ways to handle things. If I want to contact them I will do it myself, I don't want them trying to recruit me. Do not throw your garbage in my yard!" WSFA.COM

Donny Ray says, "We as Alabamians have a chance to undo the negative image of our shared past by uniting against all the hate-mongers and good ole boy politicians once and for all. It's WAY PAST TIME! Let's be recognized for having done all we could to send these people back under the rocks they slithered out from under!"   FACEBOOK

Lastly Dave writes, "I'm all about loving your race no matter what it is! Be proud of what and who you are! But that doesn't mean you have to dislike/hate others, burn crosses etc. For the life of me I can't figure out how ANYONE from Missouri found our little bitty, quaint town! We don't need or want you here!" WSFA.COM

As always, we encourage and appreciate your feedback.

The subject of legalizing marijuana is more openly discussed these days, but I sense I will be long gone before our state ever passes such legislation.

I can’t begin to thank all the people in Montgomery who went out of their way to make an outsider feel at home. In only a year and a half we have made lifelong friends, friends who we would count on with our lives and our children’s lives. But it is the South, and that is what you do.
