MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama State Board of Education voted Tuesday to elected District V representative Ellla Bell  as Vice President of the Board. The vote was unanimous.

Bell elected to the State Board in 2001, will serve a one-year term as Vice president.

"I recognize the fact that I have learned so much from each one of them," said Bell of her work with previous State Board of Education members such as the late Dr. Ethel Hall, Sandra Ray, David Byers and current members. "I do hope that my leadership on this board will continue to move us forward because that's where the greatest state needs to move – and that's always forward."

Also elected by a unanimous vote was Jeffrey Newman who will serve as President Pro Tem. Newman is the representative for District VII.

Governor Robert Bentley serves as president by virtue of his office.
