Let's race

Tucson Speedway kicks off the inaugural NASCAR WHELEN ALL AMERICAN SERIES SEASON OPENER tonight when NAPA Auto Parts of Southern Arizona Presents the DRY HEAT 75.

The premier Super Late Model Division will race 75 laps starting at approximately 930 PM for the $10,000 purse with the winning driver taking home $2000. An anticipated 25 cars will compete for the prize.

Cars will qualify for position starting at 530. Meet and Greet with the drivers and fans on the track will start at 6:15PM. Also racing will be the Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Hornets.

The NASCAR Whelen Home Track Season will feature 10 races and allow the competitors to qualify for national NASCAR Home Track points. Racing will be on Saturdays, July 19; August 2, August 16; September 8; September 13; September 27; October 4; October 18 and finish with the PEP BOYS GRAND 100 on October 25.

The Super Late Model track champion will be honored at the NASCAR Whelen Home Track Awards banquet in Charlotte NC in November. The high points winner in the Pro Stock Division will be the Arizona State Champion for 2014.

In 1992 when NASCAR operated the track, the local promoter was Brian France. Brian is now the head of NASCAR. Brian installed two “time capsule” beer kegs under the flag stand with memorabilia of the day locked inside. The capsules will be opened at intermission on Saturday. Geraldo Rivera, ABC, NBC and FOX News, and former U of A graduate and intrepid reporter of the unknown, has been invited to open the capsules along with Brian France representing NASCAR.
