SHORTER, AL (WSFA) -

The Qwik Stop, better known as "Kold Keg", in Shorter is closing its doors to make way for a new business.

Kold Keg closed its doors Wednesday and, according to owner Drew Thompson, the new business will bring about 80 new jobs to the area.

Love's truck stop will take the Keg's place.

"My dad and uncle actually opened the actual business back around 1970," Thompson said. "The draft beer component was back in '81. That's 33 years of that component and about 44 of the other gasoline side," Thompson added

While Kold Keg, located off of I-85 at exit 22, will no longer be in business, Thompson says the new truck stop will include some fast food options like McDonald's and Subway.

The Kold Keg's closing doesn't sit well with some who consider the business a pillar of the community.

"Some of them are not too happy about it," Thompson admitted." This is kind of, I guess you'd say, a neighborhood store. And we know what customers want and we'll carry particular products for somebody that wants a particular product and we try to accommodate them. "It's gone be a little adjustment for everybody."
