Teaching Tolerance to present national awards to educators

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance project will present the 2014 Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching on Sunday.

The award will be given to Kindergarten through 12th grade educators who use their skills to reduce prejudice, improve intergroup relations and promote equity in schools.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Jubilee Seafood at 1057 Woodley Road.

The national award is given biennially and will take place at the end of a three-day summit during which the awardees will work together on a collaborative project to be shared with nation's teachers.

Each educator receiving the award will have a video unveiled at the ceremony highlighting their teacher methods that will be later posted on Tolerance.org.
