MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
It was a close call for a Montgomery family Thursday night when a tree fell on their travel trailer, almost crushing them inside.
The tree fell on Loxley Lane in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Montgomery just before 10:30 p.m.
Chris Sumerall and his 6-year-old son, Ty, were in the trailer at the time, but neither one of them were injured. Two other homes were also damaged by the tree.
Sumerall says he and his son were watching TV while in bed when they heard what sounded like the crack of thunder. Then, the tree slammed into the small trailer, crushing down the room right over their bed.
The two were initially stuck, but managed to break loose and get out of the camper.
"The walls were cracking so up there it had like white stuff above it that cracked open and it made wood come out and the wood cracked," said young Ty Sumrall. "And there was nothing left but the wood and the ceiling cracked."
"Some stuff was smushed and we couldn't get everything out cause some stuff got smushed," the boy added
Power could not be restored to the trailer so the family is now having to stay with friends.
