MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Troy University says its students who are in Israel will be coming home early due to the escalating situation in the region.

Israeli leaders are in the fourth day of broad military offensive in the Gaza Strip in which the death toll now stands at over 100.

Troy officials say it has seven students in Israel as part of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon, a consortium partnership among Troy, Harvard, Wheaton College and Boston College.

Each of the students remains in contact with the university, which says they are no longer in the field.

Six students are scheduled to fly back to the United States Saturday with the last returning home Monday.

In all, the expedition is being cut short by approximately 10 days.
