LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

According to the Kansas Water Ski Federation's Facebook page, Hally Nicole Yust was very active in the water and greatly enjoyed water skiing.

She died Wednesday after a rare bacterial infection took her life. She died from primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) caused by Naegleria fowleri, commonly referred to as the "brain-eating amoeba" or "brain-eating ameba," It is a free-living amoeba found in fresh water.

KWSF said Hally had become great friends with many of the other children at Mokan Water Ski Club and they considered her family.

"Her loss is one that will be felt for years to come. However we... will always remember the great joy that she gave us," the Mokan Water Ski Club wrote.

Hally provided support to others, even in her death. Her kidneys were donated Friday.

Due to Hally's death, some upcoming tournaments have been canceled.

The Mokan tournament scheduled for Sunday has been canceled and Country Lakes has also decided to cancel their tournament. Organizers say people are still welcome to come, there are places to stay and food to eat.

"Due to the absolute tragedy that has occurred with one of our club families we feel that canceling the tournament is in the best interests for our club and family. It was certainly not an easy decision to come to and we are aware of the graciousness and dignity displayed by the Yust family in expressing their willingness to continue with the tournament. This simply hit too close to home and the club needs some time to grieve. The board agreed that the best method to facilitate that is to observe our grievance by not holding the tournament this weekend," the Mokan Water Ski Club wrote.

State is going on as planned and Topeka has ordered special bracelets that will be available for donation to the Yust family.

Mokan Water Ski Club said they will celebrate the life and joy that Hally gave all who knew here by dedicating a memorial plaque in her honor in her honor on the ski site. They also plan to hold future tournaments in her memory and honor.
