UPDATE: 59 back open in Liberty Co. after chemical situation

HOUSTON, TX (KTRE) -

US 59 is now back open in both directions in Liberty County following a chemical situation in a FedEx truck, according to Houston TV station KTRK.

KTRK reports authorities have cleared the scene.

According to the ABC Houston affiliate, neighborhoods were being evacuated and the freeway was closed as a precaution, after the driver of the delivery truck realized the refrigeration system went out.  The truck was carrying organic peroxide type D, which is required to be kept cold, according to KTRK. If the chemical gets too hot, it could explode, according to the report.                                                                         HazMat crews reponded and contained the situation, according to KTRK.

The scene was cleared about 7 p.m. Friday evening.
