ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) -

More than 700 softball players and coaches will be in Enterprise, battling it out to be the Alabama Dixie State Softball champions from Saturday until Wednesday.

It's not just the teams that are hoping for a home run, the city is too.

"Hopefully this is an opportunity for us to showcase our city," said Warren Bowran, Parks and Recreation program coordinator for the City of Enterprise.

Bowran knows firsthand the work that's taken place over the past year to prepare for a tournament of this size.

"This is the first time Dixie softball has ever had five championships in one city at one time, so we are looking forward to setting then record," Bowran said.

Approximately 47 teams from across Alabama will hit the diamond at 3 different parks within the city. The Enterprise Parks and Recreation has been hosting tournaments since the 90's and they say planning is key.

"Our staff is we think second to none our maintenance crew does the best we expect, and I think the city is just going to be real proud," Bowran said.

Many hotels in and around Enterprise are already at full capacity.

The exact economic impact figures won't be known until after the tournament wraps up, but city leader are keeping their expectations high.
