MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The United States Air Force has announced that over 3,000 positions will be eliminated across the country, including some at Maxwell Air Force Base.

According to the Air Force, approximately 3,459 positions are being cut as a result of a management headquarters review.

The headquarters review shows that 31 positions at Maxwell Air Force Base will be eliminated sometime during the month of July. Maxwell had one of the lowest number of positions eliminated compared to other locations across the country.

The Air Force has been told to reduce cost and staff levels by at least 20 percent according to NBC.

"Cuts of this nature were exactly what we warned would happen if sequestration were allowed to go through," said Alabama Rep. Martha Roby. "That's why I voted against the bill that brought on sequestration, and have worked to restore military funding ever since."

Langley Air Force Base in Virginia took the biggest hit as 742 positions were eliminated.
