Former Auburn police chief joins city council

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Former Auburn City Police Chief Tommy Dawson is a now a city council member for Ward 8 in Auburn.

Dawson retired early from the Auburn City Police Department to battle Parkinson's disease. Dawson says he is excited about serving the citizens of Auburn once again when his term begins in November.

Mayor Bill Ham will continue to serve as the Mayor of Auburn.

The qualification period for the August 26 Municipal Election ended Tuesday, July 15.
