Fatal crash in Houston County

HOUSTON CO., AL (WSFA) -

Officials in Houston County are confirming the identity of the victim struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday.

According to the Houston County Coroner Robert Joseph Patterson, 62, from Minerva Ohio, was stuck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Highway 84 West in Ashford near Dothan Tuesday. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. where Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:32 p.m.

Witnesses say that Patterson had crossed the westbound land fine but was hit crossing in the eastbound lanes. It appears at this time that Patterson was homeless.

Ashford Police handled the accident but the Alabama State Troopers and the Houston County Sheriff's assisted.
