Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford and supporters gathered outside the offices of Alabama's Attorney General Wednesday to show support for a lawsuit against the state's top law enforcement officer.

Ford says Attorney General Luther Strange is the focus of the suit following the closure of gaming facilities in Macon County.

The mayor contends that Macon County citizens had their voting rights violated when the Victoryland casino was shutdown.

"It is wrong for the attorney general to abuse the power of his office, to try and takeaway the voting rights, and to try and nullify the voting rights of taxpayers of Alabama," Ford said. "We have a right, we voted for this issue, this is a constitutional issue, and if you think we're going to let Luther Strange or anyone else turn us around, oh no."

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in May ordered Ford's attorney to pay the Attorney General's legal fees for what he called a 'frivolous' lawsuit.

The case remains on appeal.
