AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

The Auburn Police Department arrested a Phenix City woman on Tuesday for first degree theft of property.

Police arrested 24-year-old Minnie S. Marshall as a result of an investigation into a report of an auto theft that was filed on June 2 by a business in the 1200 block of Opelika Road.

Officers were informed that Marshall obtained a 2014 Ford Mustang valued at $25,000 from the business through a short term rental agreement. Instead of returning the vehicle as planned, Marshall fled the area.

An investigation showed that Marshall was contacted by Florida Highway Patrol on June 5 in the stolen vehicle in Panama City, Florida and afterwards was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

Auburn detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant charging her with theft of property in the first degree. She was arrested on the outstanding warrant on July 9 after cases by the Florida authorities were concluded. The Florida Highway Patrol recovered the stolen Mustang and will return it to the owner.

Marshall was transported back to Alabama on July 15 where she was taken to the Lee County Detention Facility. She is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
