MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Exposed cable lines that had been lying across backyards in East Montgomery, and across a sidewalk in another neighborhood are now underground.

Charter Communications confirmed the lines in both neighborhoods belong to them and now have been buried.

Charter says it has a goal to bury its cable lines within a 14-day period. The company also says its call center representatives are available 24/7 to offer customers assistance. Customers who have unresolved concerns should feel free to ask for a supervisor.

The 12 News Defenders first reported on an east Montgomery neighborhood where neighbors have been dealing with lines in their yards last week. Then many more people fighting similar battles contacted us.

Sherry Power lives just a few houses down from her mother in Montgomery. She said bright orange cables had been strewn across the sidewalk in front of their homes for months.

"We noticed in April that somebody had work done and the cables were out on the sidewalk with the cones," Power said. "We've been told that the cables belong to Charter. Mom had Charter up until two weeks ago."

Sherry reached out to the WSFA 12 News Defenders after seeing Jamie Newton's story.

Newton had been frustrated with cables that had been hanging from the fence in her east Montgomery back yard for two years.

"It used to be just one wire, and then probably about four to six months ago a second one popped up," Newton said. "It's definitely frustrating because I have attempted so many times to call and go in there in person and try get this resolved."

In another part of town, a couple said orange cables had been lying across their yard for five years. They've complained, and received a $20 credit for their troubles, but the lines are still not buried.
