NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

More than 100 bars around New Orleans have voluntarily chosen to go 100 percent smoke free through Friday.

City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell has partnered with the Healthier Air for All Campaign to bring a smoke-free week to New Orleans from July 21-25.

The campaign encourages bars and citizens to "join the movement for cleaner, healthier, smoke-free air in New Orleans."

Cantrell is proposing a new ban on smoking in local bars.

Other cities around Louisiana have smoke-free ordinances, including Alexandria. Cantrell hopes to generate interest for similar legislation here.
