GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Plans are moving forward in Ascension Parish on a new governmental complex that officials say will create a one stop shop for residents and accommodate the parish's growth.

"What we want to do is provide convenience,” said Chief Administration Officer Ken Dawson. “Everything is convenience from the standpoint of providing services to the public, but also convenience as we operate."

Once complete, the $6.4 million building sitting on 15 acres of land off Worthy Road in Gonzales will house the parish's planning and zoning, administration, finance, grants, purchasing and inspections departments.

"Even though we're starting now having certain departments there, the goal is to move all or most of the departments there that's feasible to locate," Dawson explained.

The final contract is being signed before construction can begin. SBS Construction is the company contracted to build the complex. Dawson said the building represents the future for Ascension Parish.

"There's a future in Ascension Parish that looks bright and I think it's something that people of the parish embraces, the people in the administration embraces and also the parish government appreciates," Dawson added.

Once construction begins, it will take close to one year to complete.
