GULF SHORES, AL (WBRC) -

Several distress calls came in at the same time in Gulf Shores on Sunday from swimmers needing help, and one of those swimmers still has not been found.

Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue searched for a 17-year-old male in the waters on Sunday. Authorities have not yet released his name.

Two helicopters searched for the teen, but they were called off only two and a half hours into the search due to weather conditions.

Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue said all they can do is keep watch along the beach. The currents of the Gulf are too rough, and they have very low visibility. They tried using thermal cameras, but were not successful.

This teen was not the only swimmer caught in this strong current. Rescuers said several distress calls from swimmers all came in at the same time, which prompted them to close the waters.

The air search for the teen is expected to resume Monday morning if the weather permits.
