BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham is putting its best foot forward to impress visitors from the site committee of the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

The Magic City is one of five cities making bids to host the DNC.

Visitors from the DNC will start touring the city on Monday to see if Birmingham could be a possible host site.

City leaders believe the Magic City has something unique to offer: Southern hospitality.

Birmingham is competing against several northern cities, Columbus, Ohio, New York, Philadelphia, as well as Phoenix.

Cleveland was also in the running but has since pulled out since it will be the host city for the Republican National Convention.

Over the weekend city workers were painting, putting up signs, and putting the final touches on several venues the DNC delegates will tour today.

Birmingham's chief of staff Chuck Faush says it really makes a difference when the delegates can visit the city and see the attractions for themselves rather than relying on pictures or a presentation.

Iron City is hosting a DNC Pitch Party Monday night at 8 p.m. It will be a chance for DNC visitors to interact with Birmingham residents.

Tickets for the event are free, but had to be reserved online. No more tickets are available.
