Many of the teens in Minneapolis and St. Paul have long been neglected by their communities. This neglect has led to problems like gang involvement, teenage pregnancy and drug use, but there are organizations which are working to stem this tide. The You Only Live Once Theater Group run by a licensed educator for grades 5-12, veteran singer, dancer and theatrical performer Julie Schottler is committed to helping these forgotten teens find their artistic voice. In their first production, “Wild Love,” teen performers will be able to showcase their singing, dancing and acting talents.

“Wild Love” is an original production featuring many of the most popular songs of today accompanied by hip hop choreography that is dazzling to behold. What will be more impressive than the theatrical production will be the previously untapped potential that many of the young performers possess. These young singers and dancers are between the ages of 13 and 19, and live in the at risk communities of the Twin Cities.

YOLO Theater Group is a non-profit organization that offers instruction in singing, acting, dancing, writing, directing and choreography to at risk youths. This newly created company will re-invest all proceeds from the “Wild Love” shows back into these youth programs. In order to put on this initial production, YOLO estimates that $13,000 will be needed. This budget includes costumes, stage sets, equipment rental, musical direction, band and facility rental.

To raise the necessary funds, the You Only Live Once Theater Group has sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. If you make a financial pledge to this important project, you will receive the satisfaction of helping many of these forgotten young people discover their inner talents, and you may receive T-shirts, show tickets, “Wild Love” keepsakes, or a show credit.
