PIKE ROAD, AL (WSFA) -

The Town of Pike Road announced LIVE on Today in Alabama they will be beginning Phase two of the Natural Trails Project. Reporter Melissa Johnson debuted this 'Hometown Spotlight' LIVE at the Town of Pike Road's Hall.

Town of Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone says phase one was a big success and they hope to continue the construction for phase two this fall. He says it's about bringing people together, adding new residents with the old and developing a wellness program for those residents.

"It's our job to listen to residents and capture what they want." says Mayor Stone.

This community began with a little more than 300 people back in 1997, and has now grown into a town of more than 8000. This morning Melissa focused on its growth and how town leaders are handling the needs that come with a growing town and a growing population.

She also spoke with the Pike Road Fire Department which also announced it will begin a hiring process for new firefighters, so they can accommodate the expansion.
