WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -

Wetumpka Police Chief Celia Dixon and Deputy Chief Anthony Crenshaw were placed on paid administrative leave Monday, according to Mayor Jerry Willis.

The Wetumpka City Council voted unanimously Tuesday at 11 a.m. to hire an independent investigator to look into allegations. Willis wouldn't give any details on the specific allegations.

Willis said current and former officers and people outside the police department came forward with allegations, and Dixon and Crenshaw were put on leave to insure it will be a "fair process."

Councilmember Greg Jones says the investigation doesn't involve criminal activity, and city leaders are not making any criminal accusations.

Jones said the outside investigator came highly recommended, and the council went through several different sources before hiring her. She's never been to Wetumpka before or been in law enforcement.

When reached for comment, Chief Dixon said, "I'm ok with the investigation." The deputy chief did not have a comment.

The investigator will be paid $180 an hour. Willis said the investigation is expected to be swift.
