PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

The new Smashburger in Prattville is just the first of many new businesses headed to the River Region.

Two new stores and a restaurant are also coming to the High Point Town Center. So how did the city lure all of this development?

"We have been trying to develop an atmosphere of a business friendly community, a citizen friendly, a family friendly community so I think a lot of those are coming together us being the shopping destination for central Alabama but also the restaurant location for central Alabama," said Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie.

With more businesses currently under construction, officials say it's a sign the economy has turned around and that businesses see something special right here in Prattville.

"We have weathered the 2008 to current economic storm very well, a lot better than I think the rest of the country," Gillespie said. "So if you look at our track record and our financial footprint, I think Prattville is something all businesses ought to at least be taking a look at."

The Prattville Smashburger is only the chain's second location in Alabama. The first is outside Huntsville, in Madison County.
