MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Brewer High School student was elected President of the Boys Nation Class of 2014.

Matthew Ellow spent a week at Boys Nation where young men receive government training, lectures, forums and visits to federal agencies, national shrines, institutions, memorials and historical sites in Washington D.C.

Two representatives from each of the 49 Boys States represents their state at Boys Nation.

Ellow was surprised by the election because he didn't believe he was going to win. He also said it was a very humbling experience because "97 of the brightest, most brilliant, most creative, overwhelmingly intelligent minds in the United States vested in me their confidence, to lead them to a better America."

Ellow plans to encourage students at Brewer High School and across Alabama to consider attending Boys State and Boys Nation and get involved in other America Legion programs.

You can visit The American Legion site to read more about the election and see photos and video of Ellow's inauguration. http://www.legion.org/boysnation/223501/alabama-youth-elected-boys-nation-president
