TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Megabus passengers were temporarily stranded in Tuskegee Thursday afternoon after the bus they were traveling in encountered a mechanical issue.

Associate Director of Corporate Affairs Sean Hughes says the driver pulled the bus into a rest area in Tuskegee around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The bus was traveling from Atlanta to New Orleans.

Hughes says Megabus bought the customers drinks and snacks while they waited for a relief bus to arrive. The relief bus arrived Thursday evening to take the passengers to New Orleans.

"We sincerely apologize to the affected customers for the inconvenience and have provided everyone with a full refund," Hughes said in a statement.

This is the second bus to break down in central Alabama this week and the third this month.

Wednesday night Megabus passengers were stranded in Fort Deposit for several hours after their bus suffered a mechanical issue, and the driver became ill. That bus was also traveling from Atlanta to New Orleans, and a relief bus had to be sent.

On July 6, a bus traveling from Atlanta to Montgomery encountered a mechanical issue on Interstate 85 east of Montgomery. Passengers were stranded for several hours on the side of I-85 while they waited for a relief bus.
