Sumter Co. mother pulled over for DUI, says she left toddler at home

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A Dalzell woman is accused of leaving her 21-month-old child home alone after she was pulled over for DUI.

Sumter County Sheriff's Deputies were called to Highway 378 just before 5 a.m. Monday where a Highway Patrol officer had pulled the woman over and arrested her for DUI. During the arrest, the woman admitted to officers she left her 21-month-old son alone at her home on Cold Stream Drive.

She gave the deputy the keys to the house, where the child was found alone, as described.

The boy was given to the custody of his biological father and DSS was notified.

Edith Rita Amerson, 44, was charged with unlawful neglect toward a child and taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
