MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery woman has been arrested and charged with child abuse after police say she injured a child in her care.

31-year-old Javonda Weeks is behind bars tonight being held on a 30 thousand dollar bond, while the 3-year-old boy she is accused of physically abusing is in the Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

The documents say Weeks hit the toddler with her hands and an unidentified blunt object, causing skull fractures and a broken left arm.

Child Protect Executive Director Janna Bailey says counselors have already interviewed 20 children just this week involved in abuse cases, most of which were sexual related.

"The physical abuse it's like once you start the rage just continues to build and you may take it out on that child; something that was very trivial; maybe he dropped his milk at supper time, which children do, I mean they drop things, but that's what put you over the edge because of what other kind of day you had," Bailey says.

Weeks has been taken to the Montgomery County Jail with a $30,000 bond.

You never know what makes someone tick so look for signs of abuse. Keep your eyes and ears open to what may be going on right next door to you or in your own home. If you would like to send an anonymous tip to Child Protect, call 334-262-1220.
