HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Two American doctors infected with the Ebola virus will arrive in Atlanta for treatment at the Emory University Hospital in the next few days.

Their impending arrival has sparked fears that the virus could spread in the U.S.

Huntsville doctor Richard Spera specializes in infectious diseases and said people have nothing to worry about.

“As long as the appropriate precautions are followed and followed to the letter,” Dr. Spera said. “And I’m sure with the reputation that this has it won’t be an issue.”

The virus can only be contracted through contact with bodily fluids, making it unlikely the virus will spread out of the hospital room.

"The only person-to-person transmission that we have seen has been from people who have had contact with infected secretions, which in theory, if they're following appropriate isolation precautions, really shouldn't happen," said Dr. Spera.

Dr. Kent Brantly, one of the doctors receiving treatment, has ties to the North Alabama area. While receiving treatment in Liberia, Brantly got blood from a 14-year-old boy who recovered from Ebola thanks to Dr. Brantly, according to the missionary group Samaritan's Purse. The young boy said he wanted to return the favor.
