MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Nearly 1,000 volunteers from different local organizations are giving their time to help Montgomery Public Schools.

Approximately 20 volunteers from Emerge Montgomery were out bright and early Saturday morning doing just that.

"Today we partnered with the Montgomery Public Schools and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce to help get the schools spruced up for the new year," said Tamisha Young, Program Manager of Emerge Montgomery. "We're cleaning up Morningview Elementary School and we just want the kids to come back to a school that they're proud of, that they can truly call home when they start school next week."

It's all part of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce's annual School Clean-up Project. Now in it's seventh year, the program aims to greet students, teachers, and parents with a bright and shiny school on that important first day.

"We're doing a little bit of everything. We're pruning, we're raking, we're cutting hedges, putting out pine straw and trying to make the school a beautiful place," Young said.

The volunteers from Emerge say they enjoy giving back to the community and the next generation of leaders.

"We do other things in the community, the rally in the alley, the dragon boat race," Young said. "So, anytime we can partner with the community, help make it a better place, that's what emerge and our professionals are all about."
