MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) -

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Come January, three state offices often held by women could be run entirely by men for the second time in 70 years.

Men will serve as state treasurer, state auditor and secretary of state if the Republican Party maintains its hold on every office elected statewide.

Secretary of State Jim Bennett said it's a big change from the days when women routinely won those offices.

Sibyl Pool got appointed secretary of state in 1944. Two years later, she won a full term and became the first woman elected to statewide office in Alabama. Women won all three offices in the 1954 election and continued to hold all three until the 1978 election. The only time since 1944 that men have held all three offices was following the 1990 election.
