1 dead in fiery Monday morning Birmingham Hwy. crash

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic crash after a vehicle flipped Monday morning on Birmingham Highway and caught fire. The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. between West Boulevard and Trinity Street.

Fire medics responded the scene and found a Chevrolet HHR that was flipped on its roof.

An initial investigation by the police department shows the vehicle was traveling east on Birmingham Hwy. when it left the road, hit a grassy median and struck a concrete barrier.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was pronounced dead on the scene.

This is the city's 10th traffic fatality of 2014.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
