Goodlettsville school evacuated after small fire

Students at Goodlettsville Elementary School had an eventful first day back after a small fire broke out in a bathroom.

An art teacher found a small fire in an adult bathroom in the building just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

"It looked like burning paper, and my first thought was, who would do that, you know, a trick like that on the first day, and then it clicked, I need to pull the fire alarm," said teacher Mindy Winningham.

Teachers were able to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher. No one was hurt.

Crews still came and checked out the school and made sure it was safe for students to reenter the building.

"All the teachers were organized, they gathered up their children and took them outside, made sure they got 150 feet away like they're supposed to, and it went good," said parent Johnathon Springer.

The principal sent out an automated call to let parents know what happened.

Approximately 400 children attend the Goodlettsville school.
