TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Two Tuskegee men are under arrest, charged with attempted murder after authorities say they fired shots at a police officer. A third is being sought in the case.

Captured were 19-year-olds Kendall Kendarious Huffman and Markale Tyrone Powell. They face one count of attempted murder of a police officer and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle.

"Zero tolerance for this type of act. Zero. We will not tolerate it, under no circumstances," said Captain Robin Collins, chief investigator on the case.

Officials say, that on Sunday around 3 a.m., officers received a complaint of shots being fired from a vehicle into a local night club. While on his way to the scene, an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle from the shooting. The unit attempted to pull the vehicle over but was unsuccessful.

The officer continued to follow the vehicle when the driver allegedly lost control, struck two parked vehicles in a yard and then knocked over a fence. Police say three males exited the vehicle and fired numerous shots at the officer, who was pinned in his patrol unit. The officer was able to exit the unit and return fire at the suspects who fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

The Tuskegee and Notasulga Police Departments, along with the Macon County Sheriff's Department and the Kilby Correctional Facility Team search the wooded area but did not locate the suspects.

Police say they found three assault rifles and a handgun in the possession of the suspects and in their vehicle. They also found extended magazines for the weapons, leading police to question why such heavy firepower would be needed at a nightclub.

"That's something we've had to deal with in the past and just really don't know the answer to: Why would someone want to ride around with an AK-47 in the car?" Collins asked.

Huffman and Powell were located on Tuesday and taken to the Macon County Detention Facility. The bond for Huffman is listed at $200,000 and the bond for Powell at $180,000.

The third suspect is still on the loose and police want to send a strong message to him.

"He knows he's a wanted person and he also knows that we know who it is. The best thing for him to do at this point is to come and turn himself in because we're going to look for him high and low until he's brought to justice."

Anyone who may have information on this case is asked to call the Tuskegee Police Department at 334-727-0200 or the departments Secret Witness line at 334-727-9865
