WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The search is on for a thief in Wood County.  Police say someone has been going to businesses around the county and stealing car batteries.

"Desperate times, desperate measures," said Jim Adams of Dixie Auto Parts.

A vehicle parked at Dixie Auto Parts lost a battery to the thief. The thief has hit many businesses in Wood County, including Autoville, where he walked away with 19 car batteries.

"The biggest problem I have is availability of them right now," said Dean Smith of Autoville. "I don't even have enough batteries to put in all the cars. So if you want to drive a car, buy a car, I possibly have to take one out of something else just to let you test drive it."

The suspect is described as a heavy-set man. He typically preys on unlocked vehicles during the nighttime.

"I can't imagine one individual needing that many batteries," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn. "He's definitely selling them somewhere, so we're either going to catch him on that end, or we'll catch him through the media/Facebook. So either way, I think his time is limited."

The sheriff is going through surveillance images now.  He says he is confident an arrest will be made soon.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Wood County Sheriff's Office immediately at 419-354-9001.
