MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

If you're in Montgomery and have school-aged kids, most likely they are enjoying their last summer weekend of freedom and staying up past school night curfew.

Students report to school Monday.

It's her first full school year as superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools, Margaret Allen says her number one goal right now is to have a successful first day of school.

"If anyone finds a 'T' that is not crossed and it looks like it should be a T, just call us and we'll fix it," Allen said.

The superintendent says administrators and teachers have thought about everything that could possibly go wrong and have tried to prepare and prevent any issues.

"We have done everything that we can to date regarding textbooks. You know that's always an issue, so we have been counting and trying to ensure that every school has what they need," Allen explained.

It's a new school year and Allen is focused on it being a year of problem solving.

"This school year I'm hoping that along with parents and the staff of our school, that we will become the best problem-solvers ever. You know I do not think there is a problem that we cannot solve. We are just going to have to work very closely together," Allen admitted.

With a focus on participation, transparency and student achievement, Allen says be on the lookout for a parental involvement campaign to kick off soon.

"Maybe 4 to 6 weeks, if not sooner. So you will be seeing that around the city and hearing it because that's one of our strategic plan goals is to better engage our parents," she says.

Also new this year, be on the lookout for a speech and debate team in the works at three middle schools. Look for more information to come out about that later in the school year.

The day after the first day of school, the Montgomery Public School board will host its first meeting of the school year.
