Former Alexandria mayor, Daniel McGinley, dies

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) -

Dan McGinley, former mayor of Alexandria, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospice at age 71.

McGinley served on the Alexandria City Council for seven years before being sworn in as mayor in 1999.

During his 12 years as mayor, Alexandria increased its cash reserves from $175,000 to more than $1 million; generated $4 million in grant money; and purchased its city building and its Calvin A. Perry Community Center.

Visitation will be held Aug. 12, at St. Mary of the Assumption, 8246 East Main Street in Alexandria, from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 7 p.m.
