Gunfire in Crossroads neighborhood leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are investigating a triple shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead.

Kansas City police said Stephon L. Cunningham was killed in the shooting.

The shooting happened about 2:15 a.m. Sunday near Southwest Boulevard and Broadway.

Police said the victims were traveling north on Broadway and stopped at Southwest Boulevard.

Two suspect vehicles pulled along each side of the victim's vehicle. Numerous rounds were fired into the victim's vehicle from both sides.

Cunningham died while in surgery at an area hospital. One victim is currently in serious but stable condition, and another suffered a minor injury.

Police are still looking for whomever is responsible. No suspect description was immediately available.

Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte said in a tweet that this is 41st homicide of the year. The city had 61 homicides this time last year.

"Even though we're down 20, it's still too many," Forte said.

Violent crime is unusual for the Crossroads neighborhood, and it's left many residents shaken up. One business had windows pierced by the bullets.
