More soldiers welcomed home to Fort Knox from Kuwait

 FORT KNOX, KY (WAVE) - 350 more soldiers from the 19th Engineer Battalion serving in Kuwait were welcomed home by anxiously awaiting family at Fort Knox over the weekend.

The first 300 members of the battalion got home Thursday night. Then another group arrived Saturday morning at 6:30 to a ceremony at the new 19th Engineer Battalion Complex at Fort Knox. An additional 100 soldiers were welcomed home Sunday morning at 4:45.

The Sunday morning ceremony featured the uncasing of the unit's colors by 19th ENG Commander Lt. Col. John Lloyd - a military tradition signifying the soldier's return to duty at Fort Knox. The battalion will occupy the newly constructed complex comprised of more than 190,000 sq. ft. of administrative, barracks and training space.

During the nine-month deployment, the battalion's fourth since they were reactivated at Fort Knox in 2005, they carried out numerous construction projects including base construction at Camps Arifjan and Buehring in Kuwait, logging more 130,000 hours of labor. The 19th Engineers also helped out Tajikistan locals making improvements to infrastructure.
