App sends witty replies to unwanted sexting requests

(KFVS) -

A new app that sends witty replies to unwanted sexting requests is also designed to help curb electronic sexual harassment.

The Send This Instead app was created by the Ontario Provincial Police Child Sexual Exploitation Unit to provide an alternative for teens to deal with sexting.

The app sends witty replies such as, "Okay TTYL (talk to your lawyer), "Right now is no good. How about never?" and "I can't send you nude photos, but I'll forward this to my dad and you can try asking him for some."

Those who use the app also get access to helpful websites with advice on how to deal with unwanted sexual advances.

Unsolicited sexting can turn into online harassment and many photos are being shared with unintended audiences.

Research shows some girls now fear their peers more than strangers as a cause of sexual harassment because of sexting requests.

A lead researcher says some of the girls being pressured to send explicit photos were as young as 11.

While it may not prevent unwanted sexting, the hope is the app may empower teens and give them a way to fight back against the harassment.

User reviews for the app appear to be positive and praise it as a great service for teenagers.

The Send This Instead website offers more information about the free service. Click here to learn more.

The app is also available as a free download on Apple and Android devices.
