Down in the Wiregrass, Dothan City School students headed back to school on Wednesday.

It was the voice of Dothan City Schools Superintendent, Tim Wilder that students at Dothan high could hear Wednesday morning over the PA system as they made their way inside.

The first day back marks a new era for Dothan City Schools. More than 6,000 4th through 12th grade students will now have access to iPads as part of the iconnect and 1-to-1 initiative.

The DCS iPad distribution is the largest to date in the state of Alabama.

At Highlands Elementary, the scene was a different story as parents dropped off their little ones and faculty directed the car lines. Students and parents seem eager to start this fresh new journey.

"So far the day has been absolutely smooth," said Barbara Glass who is a parent. "The children have enjoyed getting ready and are excited to learn about their new iPads."

As of now the only challenge has been traffic, which is normal during the first week. Administrators with Dothan City Schools are asking everyone that drops off or picks up students to please be patient.
